energy-saving tips

Take Advantage Of Off-Peak Hours

You’ve probably been given notice that 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. is an “on-peak period,” meaning that you’re paying more for any electronics you use during this period of time. Whether it’s your air conditioning unit, fans, or electronic devices, you’re paying more to use them during this period of time. If possible, do your laundry, run the dishwasher, and use your oven before or after the peak period to minimize your electricity bill.

LED Light Bulb

Use LED Bulbs And Natural Light

LED bulbs are one of the best ways to lower your monthly utility bill. In addition to using 90% less power than incandescent bulbs, LEDs last much longer and often provide more light.

While LEDs are a great way to cut down on the costs of lighting your apartment, using natural light costs even less! Although you don’t want the sun to shine directly into your apartment and raise the internal temperature, waiting until it’s overhead and then opening your blinds will allow you to rely on natural light until the evening.

Unplug, Especially Before A Vacation

Did you know that many electronics use power, even when they’re not plugged in? While the devices in your apartment probably don’t use much energy individually, they can make a large, collective impact on your utility bills. If you’re going on a vacation this summer, then be sure to unplug major electronics such as:

  • Computers
  • Televisions
  • Gaming consoles
  • Kitchen appliances
  • Any device with a standby mode

Open Your Windows

Opening your windows in the morning is a great way to fill your apartment with cool air before the temperature rises and you need to switch to your air conditioner. You can also open them in the evenings, but we recommend closing and locking them before you leave or go to bed.
